Kate and Cody originally intended to get a dog or two when they bought their first house. And then they got a third. Then a fourth. They were gifted a fifth. Then they decided to start fostering and happened to find their sixth and seventh, and they took in their eighth (and now ninth) somewhere along the way! Currently, Drummond Dog House likes to foster dogs who are over-looked or are not thriving at the shelter for the City of Mobile Animal Services, getting them healed up used to home life to find their furever homes.
Eight of the nine dogs are rescues from shelters in southern Alabama. Ash, Brock, Misty, and Joy were found at the Baldwin County Animal shelter, while Eden, Trevor, Athena, and Liz are from the City of Mobile Animal Services. Since they can't adopt all the dogs, Kate and Cody decided to start fostering in December of 2023. Shelters in the south tend to fill up quickly no matter the time of year, but fill up extra fast around Christmas time. In 2024, Kate & Cody along with their friends decided to turn the dog crew into a nonprofit to continue helping dogs in the area and to promote the welfare of dogs in general. 2025 was the year the ball really started rolling, and now Drummond Dog House is registered with the state of Alabama and is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit!
The long-term goal is to expand the dog sanctuary, prioritizing dogs with disabilities (Eden), medical needs (like Athena), bonded pairs (Ash and Brock), or who just keep getting passed over (Trevor). In the meantime, Drummond Dog House showers all dogs in our care with pets, fuzzy blankets, love, and a safe, healthy, happy place to live whether they are permanent residents of Drummond Dog House or destined for another furever home.
As part of our long-term goals, Drummond Dog House also intends to fully pull dogs from shelters to rehabilitate and adopt out to others. Follow along on our journey to see the dogs we can help and meet future dog crew members and foster friends along the way!
